highly decentralized structure of HHMI encourages breakthroughs without
bureaucracy,
but poses significant challenges to consistent branding and messaging.
Several years
ago, the institute launched an ambitious corporate identity initiative
to solidify its visual identity,
from business cards and stationery to high-end, defining publications
such
as HHMI’s 50th anniversary annual report and an in-depth study
of Janelia Farm,
the institute’s groundbreaking new biomedical research complex.
